This blog is an informal chronicle of the life and times of Michal and Jonathan in Jerusalem. As it will be up to Jonathan to update it, the addition of new content may be random and infrequent, but he promises to try really hard to update often. Shalom

The pictures are marvelous. btw, those red flowers in your garden are KAH-LAH-NEE-OHT; the name of one of Naomi Shemer's most famous songs, the specialty of Shoshana Damari. I suggest you make a point of listening to a recording of Damari singing it. It's even more Israeli than "Jerusalem of Gold."
Once it gets into your head, you can never get it out.

That's so interesting - I've never actually heard of it. I'll go look it up now. But seriously; something more Israeli than "Yerushalym shel zahav?!" I don't believe it! :)
The pics are beautiful. Are the red flowers poppies?
Ruthie wanted me to ask you a homework related question ... How much is gas there now? What's your favorite felafel place? and how much would lunch cost there? thanks!
Oops! I must correct myself. Yes, the red flowers are poppies (anemones). But the melody of the song "Kalaniot" was written by MOSHE VILENSKI and the lyrics by NATAN ALTERMAN. It became Shoshana Damari's signature song, and it took some doing to persuade the British occupiers (1945) that the song was not subversive! Actually, it did reflect the antagonism that the Jews felt toward the British parachutists who wore red berets. Damari personifies Israel, and her rendition of KALANIOT is as real as it is legendary.

Beautiful photos! Keep 'em coming! :) xoxo
Those flowers are beautiful. But I have to admit I'm glad I'm not there now-- allergies!
Hope your trip was amazing! Can't wait to see pictures of that...
